Malik Yusef The Wordsmyth
Malik Yusef is one Chicago’s Top 5 Most Featured Musical Artist listed only behind R. Kelly, Common, Twista, and Kanye West and is arguably the worlds most renown and famous spoken word musician. His national debut started with his on-set job training actor Larenz Tate for the movie “Love Jones” and was featured in the film. Malik was featured on Actor and Grammy Award wining artist Common’s Platinum selling “One Day It’ll All Make Sense” and Carl Thomas’s debut double platinum album “Emotional.” He served as the poster boy for Russell Simmons HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and won a Grammy with Kanye West for his poetry performance on “Late Registration” alongside The Game on “Crack Music” and is nominated for a Grammy 2010 for his writing on Amazing by Kanye featuring Young Jezzy from the album “808 and Heartbreaks.”
His own album release under Universal Music featured such artists as Kanye West, Twista, Carl Thomas, Common, to name a few and his album features have included Raheem Devaughn (Jive), Shawnna (DTP/DEF JAM), Rhymefest (J-RECORDS), Kindred The Family Soul (Hidden Beach), Barak Obama’s:Yes We Can (Hidden Beach) UK’s Shawn Emmanuel (EMI) and Legit Ballaz (KOCH). His musical prowess has even extended to Hollywood as Malik has had soundtrack songs featured on Top 10 Movies including Coach Carter and My Baby Daddy. His film credits have also been upgraded to writer/producer/narrator for his film short “Hollywood Jerome” which won an IFP Award and 9 other International awards including an appearance in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Malik also earned an Emmy from his performance on Russell Simmons HBO’s Def Poetry Jam the show also earned a Peabody that year.
Malik Yusef is a world renowned Fashionista and has been instrumental in fusing European and American fashion creating a symmetry not seen in hip-hop culture prior to his artistic emergence. One example was Malik’s reintroduction of MCM (MCM Worldwide/Germany) as a viable contender in the Fashion Arena in North America.
