Close Your Eyes...an Interactive Photography and Dance Experience

"Close Your Eyes" is an interactive photography and dance experience inspired by the work of famed artist, Ernie Barnes (the artist of the painting featured on the television show, "Good Times"). "Close Your Eyes" showcases the work of underground photographer Jaecyne Howell (MoonRisingNYC.com) and the hypnotically deep and eclectic sounds of NYC veterans Jay Locke (DanceTracks/Lion1Music/Soul People Music) and MKL (Lion1Music) and serves to bring Mr. Barnes' exquisitely emotional painting "Sugar Shack" to life.

The installation will also debut a new choreographic work by Desiree Godsell & Lia McPherson entitled "Drum Major Instinct" set to the moving MLK speech mix by DJ Marshallito. Here is the link to Marshallito's mix: http://www.gainrecordings.com/MLK/MLKDrumMajorInstinctshowedit.mp3

"We are blind to each others humanity" said Mr. Barnes, appropriate for the event being held at Littlefield in Brooklyn on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s holiday. Look forward to lush, eye-closing tracks, but keep them open for the beautiful visuals you'll be dancing with.

HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORTS

The items listed below will be collected during "Close Your Eyes" by Cher Carter-Hyppolite of Urban Sanctuary who is working directly with Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees. Though we've given to the larger organizations such as Yele and Red Cross, this targeted relief effort was important to Cher and I to raise awareness and support for the grass-roots efforts that are taking place. These groups are organizations with volunteers who work directly with our affected brothers and sisters. ~Jaecyne

From IFCO/Pastors for Peace (http://www.ifconews.org/node/723):

"In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, IFCO/Pastors for Peace is supporting Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees (HWHR), Lakou New York, and Movement of Dominican Haitian Women (MUDHA) in rapidly delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Haiti.

IFCO encourages people to generously give money and supplies at this time of grave human crisis. All of the above organizations have a powerful record of work in Haiti. IFCO is proud to serve as fiscal sponsor for each of these projects and can attest to their excellent work. HWHR travels frequently to Haiti, has been involved in training community health workers in coordination with the Cuban doctors and LAM graduates who serve the communities in greatest need. We can be assured that all donations will directly reach those most affected."

Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees, Lakou New York, and MUDHA (Movement of Dominican Haitian Women) are organizing an immediate delivery of first aid relief. MUDHA is traveling to the
Dominican/Haitian border, looking at how to reach affected areas.

To make a financial contribution to our efforts, please send a tax-deductible donation to:
