BREAKDOWN
"Jake's Song" is the story of a struggling local singer song-writer whose goal is to get signed to a record label in order to pursue his dream of becoming a successful musician a la John Mayer. Jake's other interest is using his good looks and lovely voice to woo women. One night, after striking out many times, Jake meets a homely-looking woman, Ellen. The two go home together. The next morning Jake writes a song about her. The song later attracts attention from a record company. Jake decides that Ellen is his "muse" and wants to continue a relationship with her. Jake's friends all agree that she isn't as pretty as most of the girls he sees and pressure him to dump her. Jake continues having a relationship with Ellen, but hides her from his friends. After a while, Ellen, frustrated with Jake's manipulative behavior, decides to leave him. Jake then must decide how to continue on when he meets a girl at the same bar where he'd met Ellen.
Here is a character breakdown for the characters in "Jake's Song"
ELLEN, lead, love interest, mid to late twenties, caucasian, homely to plain-looking. She is not so much a "hopeless romantic" but more so a "realistic romantic" in that she never lets her romantic side obscure her keen discernment.
ESTELLE, supporting, foil to Ellen, mid twenties, caucasian, beautiful. Estelle can have any man she wants. She hopes to ride on the coattails of Jake's promise as a musician.
DANNY, supporting, late 30's to early 40's, a former DJ for a local radio station, Danny has tried for years as a producer to find the next big thing and sign him. He thinks he may have found what he's looking for with Jake.
CAM, BOB, SEAN, supporting, mid twenties, (no specific race/ethnicity), Jake's friends, all three are Jake's "wing men" and are even more vain and self-centered than he.
GIRL, supporting, early twenties, a young, somewhat pretty, naive girl, who would serve as easy prey for a charming devil such as Jake.
