Gary Roosevelt and Thea Bowman advance to Regionals in Boys Basketball
Scouting the Class 3A Plymouth Regional
Saturday 3/14/2009
Rochester (20-3) vs. Griffith (14-8), 9:30 a.m.
West Lafayette (18-6) vs. Gary Roosevelt (12-8), 11:30 a.m.
Championship, 7:30 p.m.
Advancement: Winner will play the Blackford Regional winner at semistate.
Favorite: Rochester.
Darkhorse: Roosevelt.
Fast facts: Host Plymouth has won this regional each of the last four years, but was beaten in the sectional final by Rochester last week. The last regional champion to come from any of these four teams was Roosevelt, which won at Plymouth in 2003. West Lafayette's last regional title came in 1989, Rochester won its last regional in 1943 and Griffith has never won a regional championship.

Thea Bowman Academy
Despite playing an independent schedule that takes it far and wide, Bowman has won consistently. The Eagles claimed the Class 1A Morgan Township Sectional title in their IHSAA postseason debut last week and head to Triton for Saturday's regional 3/14/2009.

Their semifinal opponent there is Caston, a team that followed a 1-19 regular season by winning three times in five days to capture the West Central Sectional. Assuming a win there, the Eagles would likely get defending Class 1A champ and regional host Triton (21-2) in the final.
